BRITISH COLUMBIA: On Sunday March 17, 2019, the Sikh community of New Westminster honoured a local  who intervened to save a senior citizen from a violent attack.

On September 23, 2018, Alexey Baybuz was walking on the Queensborough Bridge when he witnessed an elderly man being attacked with a hammer.

Alexey intervened to  help the 75-year-old man victim but was also attacked by the assailant.

The Gurdwara Sahib Sukh Sagar says that Alexey Baybuz’s decision to intervene “played an instrumental role in protecting the victim and preventing potential life-threatening injuries.”

The Gurdwara Sahib honoured Alexey for his bravery by presenting him with a plaque and a $500 cheque for his bravery and courage.

Gurdwara president Harbhajan Singh Atwal said Alexey Baybuz is a “model citizen, a hero, an amazing role model and an inspiration to us all.”
